Tableau Presents Tales of Tableau at The Kinfolk Gallery
Tales of Tableau is a new exhibition by the recently opened, innovative floral space and design studio, Tableau. Currently showcased at The Kinfolk Gallery in central Copenhagen, the spacious gallery have been transformed into a space covered in dreamy flowers and bouquets in close conjunction with fragmented industrial installations. The exhibition is an extension of Tableau’s foundational interest using floral art as a medium of creating poetic and dramatic narratives staged in new contextual settings.

The many various handmade design objects and vases on display at The Kinfolk Gallery are created using prefabricated materials, repeated and stacked — with a particular emphasis on steel as a raw construction element. All of the designs represent a clash between minimalistic lines and the monumentality of solid materials. Tableau has transformed The Kinfolk Gallery into a space that reflects the industrial surroundings to celebrate the originality of the distinct designs. Each raw design object on display tells a story of its own, while the soft shapes and warm hues of delicate blooms and bouquets both compliments the installations and emphasize the contrasts between shapes and materials. The exhibition artistically interprets the origin from the French word “tableaux”, which in the world of opera, ballet and art is another word for scene. A scene that represents a significant story and its universe.
Besides the exhibition, the new Tableau store in Copenhagen, founded by Julius Værnes Iversen, was designed by Copenhagen-based architect David Thulstrup to resemble a gallery space where flowers would take centre stage. Here, floral narratives and dramatic bouquets are permanently on display standing atop these unique, architectural podiums as if art pieces. With the ambition to create a space that was more updated and contemporary, and not only a flower store, but something that functioned on many different levels, Julius have certainly managed to upend our expectations and potentials of florals.
